Description
Tribulus terrestris is a beautiful little plant as it creeps over the ground with its delicate leaves and pretty yellow flowers. Its beauty is deceptive, however, since it lives up to its common name of Puncture vine or Goat head. Its seeds resemble the head of a goat. It is covered with wicked spines. They create instant excruiating pain if one gets in your shoe or you have the misfortune of stepping on one. The plant is said to have medicinal properties. The seeds have been known to remain viable for up to ten years, making it difficult to eradicate the plant once it has gone to seed. The wicked brown seed capsules can be seen along the stem in the photograph.
