Description
The three cent Mt Rushmore Stamp was issued August 11, 1952 in Keystone, South Dakota to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the commissioning of Mt Rushmore, which was designed and sculpted by Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln. Construction on the memorial began in 1927, and the faces of the four presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, were completed between 1934 and 1939. Upon Gutzon Borglum's death in March 1941, his son Lincoln Borglum took over construction. The monument was completed in October, 1941.
