Description
Chitwood Bridge, in Lincoln County, was built in 1893 to access the railroad depot of the Corvallis and Eastern Railroad which was located across the Yaquina River from the old highway between Toledo and Corvallis, Oregon. The name of the bridge and depot may have come from the bark of the Cascara tree, common in the area, which is a very strong laxative.
