Description
The college was initially founded by the Free Masons and later was transferred to the Methodist Episcopal Church. Corvallis College was founded in Benton Hall as a Land Grant College in 1889. As the school expanded it was re-dedicated as the Oregon Agricultural College in 1927 and was granted university status, becoming Oregon State University in 1961. Benton Hall is still in use on the beautiful Oregon State University campus as the center for the Music Department with a stage for live perfformaces. Oregon State is still affectionately referred to as the Oregon Cow College. I graduated from Oregon State University in 1970.
