Description
The Oregon & Pacific Railroad runs down the middle of Sixth Street in downtown Corvallis, Oregon. The railroad connected the sawmills and paper mills on the Oregon coast with the Willamette Valley to the east. While I was a student at Oregon State University, a young man climbed into a railroad car filled with sawdust while the train was stopped in Corvallis. When the train started up again, he was still on top of the sawdust in the railroad car. He took a very cold, unexpected, trip to Toledo, approximately 45 miles away, on the Oregon Coast.
