Description
The yellow foliage of the Western Larch, Larix occidentalis, is so beautiful in the fall at the higher elevations of the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. The Western Larch is one of a few deciduous conifers on which the lacy needles turn yellow before dropping off in the fall. It is similar to the Eastern Larch or Tamarack, Larix laricina, that grows in the northeastern forests of the United States and in Canada.
I captured this beautiful forest in the vicinity of Deadman Pass on I-84 at the summit of the Blue Mountains in southeastern Oregon.
