Description
As a forester, I am fascinated that this forest in the bottom of Northrup Canyon is the only native forest in Grant County, Washington. Grant County would be classified as a semi-arid county and would not be expected to have a forest as seem here. The forest is mostly Lodgepole and Ponderosa Pine with a few Douglas-fir trees. In the foreground is the native sagebrush characteristic of the shrub-steppe region of Grant County. The basalt cliffs created by the rushing waters of the Ice Age Flood make up the backdrop of the canyon.
