Description
As a forester, I am fascinated that this forest in the bottom of Northrup Canyon is the only native forest in Grant County, Washington. Grant County would be classified as a semi-arid county and would not be expected to have a forest as seem here. The forest is mostly Lodgepole and Ponderosa Pine with a few Douglas-fir trees. In the foreground is the native sagebrush characteristic of the shrub-steppe region of Grant County. The basalt cliffs created by the rushing waters of the Ice Age Flood make up the canyon that is visible as one looks up the canyon.
