No its not the Grand Canyon. The Palouse River in the Palouse Country of Eastern Washington cuts a winding deep canyon through the basalt cliffs of the Columbia Plateau. In the early spring the steep talus slopes of the canyon sprout lush green grass on which only the most sure footed goats would dare to graze.
The ice age flood cut this massive canyon as it spilled into the Snake River. The canyon was carved in just a few hours as the water roared up the Snake River and down the Palouse River. It is a great example of the Channeled Scablands created by the flood and the awesome power of the flood. The surge of was a wall of water 900 feet high moving at 60-70 miles per hour.

Charles, this is beautiful. I know a couple people who live in this area and they've mentioned it, but I've never seen it. A lovely image. f/v
