Description
The small stacks of sandbags mark the Listening Post just inside the concertina wire outside the perimeter of Camp JJ Carroll overlooking the beautiful hills of Quang Tri Province in South Vietnamese highlands. The wire can be seen just behind the sandbags. If the enemy approaches you are on your own. If you get up to run toward the camp, you will most likely become a victim of "friendly fire." The mountains to the right would be along or within the DMZ. Khe Sahn firing base is just over the horizon on the left. Khe Sahn was the site of the infamous siege during the Tet Offensive in January and February 1968. We were firing support fire in defense of the Marines at Khe Sahn.
