Description
It is amazing to me that in 1860 the first stagecoach of the California Stage Company began operation from Portland, Oregon to Sacramento, Califrornia just a few years after the hardy pioneers had begun arriving in Oregon over the Applegate Trail and the Oregon Trail in 1846 in rickety wagons. Even at that time Scott Applegate had already begun to lay out a road along the trail that came to bear his name. This is the mail stage that stopped at the Leland Post Office located on Grave Creek. The sign over the door reads, "Grave Creek to Jump off Joe Creek."
