Description
Thirty-two years after the the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, the Toutle River cuts a meandering path through the volcanic debris from the largest landslide ever documented and the mud flows that filled the river and its tributaries at the base of the mountain, creating steep cuts, muddy fields and hummocks. Even after thirty-two years, vegetation is still sparse, however a large herd of elk thrives on the valley floor. The building lava dome can be seen within the crater
