Description
Mt. Hood can be seen looking across the Columbia River from Murdock, Washington. This small community of Rowena, located just west of The Dalles, Oregon, can be seen on the Oregon side of the river at the eastern end of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The eastern end of the Gorge is characterized by rolling hills and farms and grassland with basalt outcrops contrasting with the towering cliffs of basalt and hanging waterfalls west of Hood River. A large outcrop of basalt is visible on the right side of the photograph.
