Description
Locomotive #2645, now on display at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum was built in 1900 by Brooks Locomotive Works for the Wisconsin Central Railroad as their #247. The Wisconsin Central was leased in 1909 by the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad, commonly known as the Soo Line, and the locomotive became the 2645, or Old Sweet Soo. It is an E-25 Class ten wheeler, with a 4-6-0 wheel configuration. It was one of only ten such locomotives manufactured and the only one that has been preserved.
The Locomotive was retired in 1955, after 55 years of service, logging over one million miles. It was the last 4-6-0 ten-wheeler in service on the Soo Line System. The Locomotive was donated to the Museum in September, 1988 and was moved to the museum at North Freedom in July, 1989. She is still in service at the museum today.
