Artist's Description

The is an old postcard of the Railroad Depot, circa 1905, in Chillicothe, Ohio. The site was unique in that there were two intersecting railroad lines as viewed in the foreground. The line running from left to right, from north to south, is the Norfolk and Western Line from Columbus, Ohio to Portsmouth. The other line is the Baltimore and Ohio line running east and west from points east to Cincinnati, Ohio. As I remember each of the railroads offered passenger service when I was growing up in the 1950's. We loved to go and watch the new diesels come in. Passenger service was discontinued on the B&O Line in 1981 and freight was discontinued in 1985. I think that there may still be freight traffic on the N&W Line. The B&O tracks were removed in 1991. The depot was destroyed by an arson fire in early February, 2012.
